2012 land use/land cover (LULC) data is overlaid on 2017 USDA NAIP aerial imagery in this new map of Southern New Jersey. The original aerial imagery has been contrast-enhanced to bring out detail and create a darker background that makes text more readable. NJDEP uses a modified version of the Anderson Classification System where 4-digit codes identify about 100 types of landcover and land usage. These numeric codes are shown on the map, along with an abbreviated explanation (where space permits). For a full list of codes with more detailed explanations, see the following NJDEP document:

2017 Orthoimagery from the National Agriculture Aerial Imagery Program (NAIP), US Department of Agriculture, Farm Service Bureau Aerial Photography Field Office

Paved roads from the NJDOT Road Network File

Route number icons and highway exit numbers were created by the author
About 1,500 miles of unpaved New Jersey roads were hand-traced by the author from aerial imagery and historical USGS 24k topo maps
Trails from a variety of sources including legacy NJ State Forest maps, park websites and GPS tracks
Powerlines and pipelines were hand-traced by the author from USGS 24k topo maps and NJGIN aerial imagery
Railroads from US Census Bureau TIGER shapefiles and OpenStreetMap
Placenames, geographic features and other point data from the USGS GNIS system and NJDEP
